Make a Lampshade
April 27, 2013 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm
$70
Come find out how easy it is to make your own lampshades. We’ll be making a 15″(38cm) diameter straight sided round lampshade, 34cm deep. All you need to bring is 1/2m of a 130cm wide fashion fabric, we provide the rest.
You don’t need any sewing or interior decorating experience.
The tuition fee is $30, plus $40 for all of the frame and construction materials used. Does not include fashion fabric, which you supply.
How to choose a fabric:
Lighter weight, light background prints work best for lampshades as they allow the light to come through them the best. A printed fabric is better for beginners than a plain, as it is more likely to hide any less than perfect bits. Stripes and plaids are tricky and require patience and accuracy – if you are up for it then feel free to bring one! 🙂
Ideal fabrics include silk dupions, light to medium weight linen, curtain weight cottons or linens, and quilting cottons or linens. If you are unsure, do bring us a sample and we can advise.
