Make winter fun and fashionable with a swish cape. In this class we’ll work through the steps of the cape, adapting it to your sewing level as you learn how to apply facings and a lining, how to set a hood or create a precise collar, and how to work through the details of the cape, from buttons and buttonholes, to sewing on frogs, to welt pockets.
Choose from a selection of cape patterns, and make a simple, classic collared cape, the hooded Little Red-Riding Hood style cape, or a modern fashion cape with a belt or arm slits.
Suitable for intermediate to advanced sewers. Less experienced sewers should pick a simpler pattern without welt pockets, and with lining pieces if they want it lined. More advances sewers can use this as an opportunity to adapt an unlined pattern to have a lining, and to learn how to set welt pockets and do other advanced detailing.
Materials: Students are responsible for providing their own pattern and fabric. I have a selection of vintage cape patterns available to rent for the class for a small fee.
