|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, happening 4 times

Pattern hacking knits - Made on Marion

Tuesdays 26 April, 3, 10, 17 May 6-8:30pm (four sessions)

Cost: $130 (includes patterning tissue for pattern alterations)

To register for the class, please email Leimomi with your name, a contact number and the name of the class you’d like to be in as the subject line.

If you’ve completely mastered sewing with knits, and are comfortable making up T-shirts, cardigans, and various knit patterns, then it’s time to really up-skill your knit sewing, and learn how to adapt knit patterns to have the shaping and details that you want.

In this class we’ll take two basic knit patterns: a simple T-shirt with set-in sleeves, and my Miramar top & dress with cut-on-sleeves, and explore how they can be altered and adapted.

The class will cover:

  • Turning a T-shirt pattern into a T-shirt dress pattern with slim or flared skirt
  • Turning the Miramar dress into a wrap dress or top
  • Turning a T-shirt into a round-necked cardigan
  • Adding set-in sleeves to a knit pattern with cut-on sleeves, such as the Miramar dress.

Students can expect to make patterns for all four techniques, and to complete garments for at least two of the taught techniques.  Some students will be able to complete garments for all four techniques.

Cost: $130 (includes the pattern)

Materials: Students will need to provide the fabric and notions for their projects, and have a copy of a T-shirt pattern that they have made multiple times, and a copy of the Miramar dress/top pattern (available for sale).  A materials list will be provided on registration.

Level: Suitable for students with advanced knit skills.  Students should be completely comfortable making T-shirts, and should have made numerous T-shirts on their own.  Students should also be comfortable working buttonholes.
