Advanced Lampshade Making – using Wallpaper (Martinborough)
October 4, 2014 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
This class is only for graduates of our “Make a Lampshade” class.
Saturday 4 October 1.30pm-5pm at Peonies on Jellicoe St – Martinborough
This class has a maximum of 10 participants and demand has been high, so we suggest you don’t delay in registering yourself and any friends to avoid disappointment.
Now you know how to make a lampshade from fabric, it’s time to tackle wallpaper! This is a graduate class because wallpaper is less forgiving than fabric and requires a more refined approach. We’ll be making either a 12″(30cm) or 9″(23cm) diameter barrel lampshade. No larger size options due to the nature of the class (you can use your new found skills to make larger ones later!)
We’ll be covering the inside AND outside of the shade with wallpaper.
As last time, we will provide the makings, you just need to provide the wallpaper. You will need about 1.2m but in case of mistakes we recommend a minimum of 2m each for the inside and outside (these do not need to be the same). Please note that this class requires wallpaper, not tissue or wrapping paper etc. If you want to make a lamp from one of these, email me – it is possible but we’ll need to sort it out beforehand.
The tuition fee is $75, which includes all of the frame and construction materials used. Does not include wallpaper, which you supply.
When choosing wallpapers for your shade, think about how they work together – a plain one on the outside and a sumptuous one on the inside maybe, or a sumptuous outer and a metallic inner? You do see both at once when looking at the lamp from many angles. For the learning of it I suggest at least one of your papers has a discernible pattern to it.
