Beginner Patchwork – Making a Simple Quilt
May 10, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm$150
Three Saturdays 10 17 & 24 May, 10am-1.30pm Tuition and kit: $150
In this three day class, we will be making a simple but beautiful patchwork quilt. It is big enough for a baby/toddler, or choose more sophisticated fabrics for a cosy lap quilt.
On day one, we will be planning, cutting and maybe starting to sew up the patchwork top of the quilt. Day two we finish assembling our patchwork. When you come back for day three, your quilt will have been quilted, and you will learn how to bind and finish the quilt.
By the end of the three days, you will know about how quilts are constructed, the top tips for making them work first time, how to cut and sew accurately so your patchwork goes together like a dream, among other skills.
This class is suitable for beginner sewers and experienced dressmakers alike.
The pattern we will be using requires four fabrics totalling 2-2.5 metres. Fabric must be a quilting cotton or cotton/linen mix, and we have an interesting range of fabrics in shop. I will provide more detailed information to registrants.
Tuition fee includes thread, batting and quilting. Does not include the quilting fabrics themselves. We have four sewing machines available with the “1/4 inch feet” required for piecing patchwork. You are welcome to bring your own machine if you have one, and a 1/4 inch foot.
