Midnight in the Garden corset thedreamstress.com

Now that you have mastered the fundamentals of corsetmaking with a perfectly fitted underbust corset, move on to the next level and tackle the trickier overbust corset.

In this class we’ll build on the skills you learned in Intro to Corsetmaking to fit and sew your own customised overbust corset.  Like the Underbust Corset this one will have a front busk and back lacing, but will incorporate more advanced fitting, new construction techniques, and more opportunities to alter the design to your own taste.

Students will be able to choose from one of two patterns: a princess-seamed pattern based on 1890s designs , with optional bust cording (shown in black), or a design adapted from a 1905 corset, with hip and bust gussets (shown in peach).  With either design there are multiple options for creating boning channels, incorporating decorative features such as lace and flossing, and otherwise personalising the corset.

Overbust corset

This is an advanced class, for sewers with a high degree of experience in handling fabric, patterns, and stitching.  Students should plan on doing approximately 2 hours of sewing outside of class each week.

Spaces in this class are limited, and priority will be given to students have taken Intro to Corsetmaking: The Underbust Corset.

Materials: Students will need to supply fabric and thread for their corset (suggestions for suitable fabric will be provided).  There is also a charge for the specialist corset findings of $85 that includes all other materials needed to make one corset.

Cost: $170 for five sessions + $85 kit fee = $255 total

To register for this class, please e-mail Leimomi with your name, a contact number, and the class you would like to be in.
