Make a Lampshade – Feb 2019
February 9 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm$100
Saturday 9 February 2019 2pm-4.30pm $100 (Please note our new premises at 166 Cuba St, between Ghuznee and Vivian Sts, beside Olive Café)
Come find out how easy it is to make your own lampshades. We’ll be making a 9″ (23cm) or 12″(30cm) diameter straight-sided round lampshade. All you need to bring is 0.5m of a 112cm or wider fashion fabric (or buy it from us for as little as $8), we provide the rest.
You don’t need any sewing or interior decorating experience.
The tuition fee is $100, which includes all of the frame and construction materials used. Does not include fashion fabric, which you supply.
How to choose a fabric:
Light background prints work best for lampshades used to provide light for reading, darker fabrics are great for creating cosy atmosphere. A printed fabric is better for beginners than a plain, as it is more likely to hide any less than perfect bits. Stripes and plaids are tricky and require patience and accuracy – so please give them a miss!
Ideal fabrics include closely woven medium weight linen, curtain weight cottons or linens, and quilting cottons or linens. Unsuitable fabrics include silks, polyesters or rayon/viscose, loosely woven fabrics and treated polyester or acrylic canvas (deck chair/awning types) so please give them a miss.We have a big range of suitable fabrics in store from as little as $16m.
If you are unsure, do bring us a sample and we can advise.
