Make a Lampshade in Martinborough – Afternoon Class
August 23, 2014 @ 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm$80
Both of our 23 August classes in Martinborough are full. If you have missed out but you’re interested in being on a waiting list, or in our 5 October classes, please email me.
Saturday 23 August 2.30pm- 5.30pm at St Andrews Church Hall, Dublin St, Martinborough.
Come find out how easy it is to make your own lampshades. We’ll be making a 12″(30cm) diameter straight sided round lampshade, 29cm deep. All you need to bring is 0.5m of a 112cm or wider fashion fabric, we provide the rest. And we’ll bring spare kits in case you get addicted and want to make more at home! 😉
You don’t need any sewing or interior decorating experience.
We will be having an afternoon tea break, so do let us know of any dietary requirements.
The tuition fee is $80, which includes all of the frame and construction materials used, and afternoon tea. Does not include fashion fabric, which you supply.
How to choose a fabric:
Light background prints work best for lampshades as they allow the light to come through them the best. A printed fabric is better for beginners than a plain, as it is more likely to hide any less than perfect bits. Stripes and plaids are tricky and require patience and accuracy – if you are up for it then feel free to bring one!
Ideal fabrics include closely woven medium weight linen, curtain weight cottons or linens, and quilting cottons or linens. Curtain fabrics with insulating backing are fine. Unsuitable fabrics include silks, polyester silk style curtaining, loosely woven fabrics and treated polyester or acrylic canvas (deck chair/awning types) so please give them a miss. If you are unsure, do bring us a sample and we can advise.
