Making a Stretch Lampshade (April)
April 29, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm$95
Saturday 29 April 10.30am-4.30pm $95 tuition.
At last, a class for those of you who have been saving a fancy lampshade to re-cover. Normally in our classes we make the shades from scratch, which is a very different process. In this class, you will learn how to make a panel template, cut the panels, sew them together and clad the frame with its new cover. The skills you learn will allow you to tackle any shape of frame in the future.
To do this class you need to be able to use a sewing machine just a little, have some patience and a sense of adventure! It helps if you have attended our Make a Lampshade class but it is not compulsory to have done so.
Participants will need to bring their own lampshade frame. Examples of the kinds we can work on are below:
If in doubt, please bring your frame in, or email us a photo. There is a little bit of pre-homework to do involving stripping down your frame and binding the top and bottom rings. We provide the tape etc (this is because of time restrictions on the day).
You will need to bring a fabric to cover your lampshade- the amount needed will vary. Allow 1.5m for an average size. We have a stunning range of suitable fabrics here, as well as gimp trims, bobble trims and fringes. Do feel free to come check them out beforehand. You are also welcome to bring your own if we don’t have one that goes with your project.
