Chiffon – it is the most beautiful and infuriating fabric to work with! Come to this class and learn some techniques that will help you to master it. Taught by Maryanne, who has been wrangling lux fabrics into submission for over 40 years and has learned a trick or two you won’t find online! BYO sewing machine as your machine’s quirks are part of the process. Also, a walking foot if your machine has one. We’ll provide microtech needles, fabric for samples. Please feel free to bring in anything you’ve made in chiffon that you’d like feedback on, it’s always useful for everyone to see what has worked and what hasn’t and how it could be done differently, or better still, fixed!
In this class we will be making samples for you to take home for future reference. You will learn:
- the different types available and their pros and cons
- cutting out tips (that don’t involve soaking in goop)
- tools and techniques
- seam finishes for different requirements
- hem finishes for different requirements
- neckline and armhole finishes
This class is for experienced sewists. This means you have made several garments using different fabric types, understand about bias and grain, and have a fairly good grasp on ease and fit, even if you can’t always nail it (who ever does). This matters as sample-making means we will be looking at some techniques out of the context of the garment itself so it’s important to understand the words. If in doubt, send me an email.
