Love the fashions of the past? The quirky details of ’30s and ’40s fashions, the romantic full skirts and fitted silhouettes of the ’50s? The mod look of the ’60s? Intimidated by vintage sewing patterns, with their limited instructions, obscure techniques, and single size pattern pieces (often with no markings!)?
This class will de-mystify period sewing patterns and period techniques as you work through the vintage pattern of your choice, learning how to fit and adapt a vintage pattern, and how to use vintage sewing and construction techniques.
Students will need to provide their own ’20s-70s sewing pattern, either an original or a reproduction from a specialist pattern reproduction company such as Wearing History or Decades of Style. Op-shops and Trademe are a great place to pick up original vintage patterns.
Suitable for those with intermediate and higher sewing experience. Students should pick a pattern that is suitable to their skill level in consultation with Leimomi
Materials: Students will need to provide their own pattern, fabric and notions for their dress.
