Make a classic shirtdress as you work on advanced fit techniques with McCall’s 6696.

McCalls 6696

You’ll learn how to:

  • make pattern adjustments to improve fit
  • sew beautiful smooth darts (including how to avoid the dreaded ‘dart nipple’
  • create fully finished shirt yokes
  • create better, more even, gathers
  • sew symmetrical collars with collar stands
  • sew nicely finished bodice-to-skirt waistband joins
  • set in sleeves (depending on the view you choose) or finish sleeveless armscyes
  • create a front button plackets
  • sew tidy buttonholes
  • use an invisible hem stitch

Students who have taken Collars & Buttons: New Look 6470 can use the finishing techniques learned in that class to take their shirtdress up to the next level.

You may make any view from A-D.  The B & D sleeves are interchangeable between the full & slim skirts.

Students should expect to do 1-2 hours of sewing a week outside of class.  Most students will finish their dress within the 5 weeks.

High Intermediate = Suitable for those with intermediate and higher sewing experience: students who are capable of following a pattern on their own, are comfortable sewing buttons and buttonholes, and have sewn at least one garment with each of the following within the last two years: darts, gathers, sleeves, and fitted waistband.

Most importantly, this class requires precision and attention to detail.

Cost: $165 (includes patterning tissue for pattern adjustments).

Materials: Students will need to provide the pattern, the fabric and thread for their dress and any notions called for in the pattern.  Recommendations will be provided when you register.

Teacher:  This class is taught by our awesome sewing expert Zara Hawthorne.

To register for the class, please email Leimomi with your name, a contact number and the name of the class you’d like to be in as the subject line.
