Trousers & shorts can be daunting to sew because really nice trousers have all sorts of tricky details: a front placket, slanted pockets, belt carriers, waistbands etc. Learn to get all of these just right with a few cunning tips and techniques as you bring your inner Katherine Hepburn to the fashion fore while making a pair of wide-legged trousers or shorts based on an original 1930s patterns.
We’ll use Wearing History’s wonderful ‘Smooth Sailing’ pattern to make a pair of flattering wide-legged trousers or shorts with a high waist, slimming pleats, and optional cuffs and belt loops. We’re using this pattern because its very easy to fit to a wide variety of body shapes.
You’ll learn how to adapt the pattern (and almost any trouser pattern) to have a front placket opening and pockets.
This class will teach basic trouser construction, basic trouser fitting, pattern adaptions, and vintage sewing techniques.

Unless you have made a number of pairs of shorts or trousers on your own, this class will be a pre-requisite for March’s ‘Taking a Pattern from Your Favourite Trousers’ class.
Intermediate = Suitable for those with intermediate and higher sewing experience. Level 3-5. This is an excellent first-trouser pattern, and an excellent introduction to vintage sewing.
Cost: $135
Materials: Students will need to purchase their own pattern, and bring the materials called for in the pattern.
