SUMMARY:Absolute Beginners Sewing
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday evenings 26 January\, 2\, 9\, 16 February\,  6 – 8.30 pm (4 nights) \nCost: $150 plus $60 materials fee (which covers everything needed to make a drawstring bag\, zippered cushion cover + cushion inner\, and pajama pants) \nTo register for the class (or to inquire about any class)\, please email Wendy with your name\, a contact number and the name of the class you’d like to be in as the subject line. \n \nA class for people who haven’t sewn a stitch since school\, or maybe never been on a sewing machine at all. \nLearn the fundamentals of sewing as we work our way through a series of fun\, simple projects\, from the most basic stitching on a drawstring bag\, to zippers on cushion covers\, and then to working with patterns and sewing a garment as you make a pair of pajama pants. \n \n\n The first session covers using a sewing machine\, basic sewing\, and fabric knowledge\, as you make a drawstring bag.  While making the bag you use straight stitching\, backstitching\, top-stitching\, and edge stitching. \n\nIn the second session you move on to a cushion cover with a set-in zip\, building on the skills learned in the first session\, and adding in zippers and zig-zag stitching. \n\nIn the third and fourth sessions you’ll be learning to work with commercial patterns and how to sew a simple garment and make basic pattern adjustments as you make a  pajama pants. \nEach session builds on the skills learned in the session before so it is quite important that you make every session.  Please make sure you’re able to attend every week’s session in the class you register for.   \n\n \nA fun\, accessible class. Classes are limited to six students so everyone gets quality time with the tutor. \nAt the end of the class students will know how to use a sewing machine\, all its basic functions and stitches\, how to make simple home decor items and how to follow sewing tutorials\, and how to make pajama pants and follow a simple sewing pattern. \nMaterials: The $60 materials fee covers all the fabrics and notions needed for the entire class. These include materials to make a drawstring bag (class one)\, a zippered cushion cover + inner (class two) and pajama pants (classes three and four). \nIf you own a sewing machine then you should bring it\, but if not we have machines available for your use. SUMMARY:Pick Your Own Project Sewing
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays 28 January\, 4\, 11\, 18 February\, 6 – 8:30pm (four sessions) \nCost: $140 \nPick Your Own Project is an opportunity for you to work on a project that doesn’t fit into another class with help and support from an experienced teacher. \n \nStudents select their own pattern\, and work through the more complicated issues in class\, from pattern alteration\, to fitting\, to advanced construction techniques\, and fine finishes. \nClass sizes are limited\, giving each student plenty of one-on-one time with the teacher. \nSewing Level:  You should be comfortable cutting fabric and using a sewing machine.  You will need to share your proposed project/pattern for this class when you register\, so that we can make sure we can help you with it\, and that it’s a good fit for the group. \nTeacher:  This class is taught by our awesome sewing expert Johanna Morris. \nMaterials: Students will need to provide their own pattern\, fabric\, thread and notions. \nCost: $140 \nTo register for the class\, please email Wendy with your name\, a contact number and the name of the class you’d like to be in as the subject line. \nLocation: this class will be held at Made Marion’s new location at 166 Cuba St – between Ghuznee and Vivian Sts\, beside Olive Café
