Finishing Techniques – what the pattern doesn’t tell you!
April 11, 2015 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm$80.00
Saturday 11 April* 10.30am to 3.30pm. Tuition: $80 includes all consumables. To register or inquire, click here
The two areas that frustrate most of our sewing customers are getting a good fit and a good finish. Sometimes it is all about the finish – necklines that gape and darts that point out are mostly likely finishing issues not fit issues, for example. And teh pattern instructions don’t tell you this stuff – they just tell you to sew the bit to the other bit, right?
So if you are already sewing but feeling thwarted by the quality of your finishing, this class is for you.
Instead of making a garment, you’ll be practising finishing techniques I have demonstrated to you. By the end you’ll have a series of samples you made yourself of the techniques, attached to notes sheets that you can use as reference in your sewing.
Let out your inner sewing scientist and come play with us! Learn far more in one day than you could from making a finished garment, with take aways you can refer back to.
We’ll be sampling at least these techniques, maybe more by request:
- Bias facing on a curve (think bias finishing necklines and armholes)
- Chiffon – finishing seams, roll hems and necklines (this will apply to all wovens)
- Pattern matching a pocket
- single ended and double ended darts
- Taping and easing
Tuition includes all the textiles and trims we will be using on the day. If you can, bring your own sewing machine, or use one of ours.
