Beginner Patchwork – making a baby quilt
October 16, 2012 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
This class is perfect for anyone wanting to learn the basic techniques required to do patchwork.
Using a 30 inch x 40 inch baby quilt as our learning project, we will cover:
- Choosing fabrics that work together
- Cutting accurate patches
- Sewing techniques – matching corners, seam allowances, how to keep track of what goes where etc
- Backing, binding and finishing
Your completed patchwork quilt top will then be long arm quilted by Sue Burnett. If you don’t have a baby to sew for, we can easily adapt this pattern to make a throw.
Week 1: Choosing fabrics, cutting patches
Week 2: Assembling blocks
Week 3: Completing the top and back (quilts are sent off for quilting after this session)
Week 4: Binding and Finishing the quilt.
Class fee: $100 for four sessions.
Also provided: fabrics, threads, backing, batting and quilting service: fee approx $115 (will vary between individual projects) and can be paid as required.
Fee includes use of our sewing machines if you don’t have one to bring, scissors, cutting mats, rulers and rotary cutters. This way, you can give it a go without having to buy a whole lot of tools.
