Free-Motion Machine Quilting for Beginners

September 12, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)
Two consecutive Saturdays

Saturday 12 and 19 September, 10am-12.30 $60 tuition plus $20 materials. Sewing machine experience needed, no patchwork experience required.

Free motion quilting is a fabulous and fun way to quilt. Whether you’re meandering all over your quilt, or outlining a pattern in the fabric, you can create something really beautiful with surprisingly little equipment.

We’ll be exploring two techniques in this class. Working up a simple all-over meander pattern of your own on plain fabric, and quilting around the picture on a printed panel. Both mini projects will be small enough to be completed, but big enough to turn into a cushion cover or wall hanging.

You can bring your own sewing machine or borrow one of the two we will have available on a first come, first served basis. Your machine needs to have a feed dog drop function or plate, and an embroidery or darning foot (the one that looks like a small O or U on the end of the post that you always wondered about!).

We will provide the fabrics, batting and thread, and drawing things for practice.

By the way, the techniques you will learn are very similar to free motion embroidery, so there’s a bonus!
