Make a Lampshade – Martinborough Easter Monday
April 17, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 1:30 pm$90
Monday 17 April 11am-1.30pm $90 for first timers, $70 for repeaters
Peonies Home and Living – 64 Jellicoe St Martinborough
Come find out how easy it is to make your own lampshades. We’ll be making a 12″(30cm) diameter straight sided round lampshade, 29cm deep. If you would like to make a different size, let us know.
You don’t need any sewing or interior decorating experience.
The tuition fee is $90, which includes all of the frame and construction materials used. Does not include fashion fabric, which you supply. Anyone who has done our class before and wants to come for a refresher can do so for $70.
How to choose a fabric:
Light background prints work best for lampshades as they allow the light to come through them the best. A printed fabric is better for beginners than a plain, as it is more likely to hide any less than perfect bits. Stripes and plaids are tricky and require patience and accuracy – if you are up for it then feel free to bring one!
Ideal fabrics include closely woven medium weight linen, curtain weight cottons or linens, and quilting cottons or linens. Unsuitable fabrics include silks, polyester silk style curtaining, loosely woven fabrics and treated polyester or acrylic canvas (deck chair/awning types) so please give them a miss.
